Games charity SpecialEffect is inviting players to take part in its annual One Special Day fundraising event. The fundraiser will support inclusion for those with physical disabilities.

The mobile event begins today, October 4th, with players able to get involved by buying and playing select mobile games, including Angry Birds 2, Subway Surfers, Squad Busters, Clash of Clans and many more.

Participants need only purchase qualifying titles and DLC from any of One Special Day’s industry partners, who will then donate a percentage of the resulting UK revenue.

Making games accessible

The SpecialEffect team comprises therapists and technical specialists who can provide assessments and customised technology loans, such as controllers, making playing games more accessible. The charity also passes on what they learn to help hardware and software developers create products with greater inclusivity in mind.

‘We are seeing an ever-increasing demand for our services, which are all provided without charge. The support the event receives from the games industry is absolutely vital in making sure we can continue to reach every disabled person that needs our help,” said Founder and CEO of SpecialEffect, Dr Mick Donegan.

“Without One Special Day, we simply couldn’t bring a better quality of life to so many people across the world, and we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the event – industry, gamers and donors.’

Outside of mobile, this year’s One Special Day has already featured a Steam sale featuring over 90 titles and an ongoing Humble Bundle promotion.

Various other supporting activities and studio events have added over £100,000 of fundraising to the campaign.

Last year, One Special Day saw SpecialEffect raise £500,000.
