The Case for Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Make the Leap to Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 is less than a week away, and there’s a whole lot for early adopters to sink their teeth into. Along with upgraded versions of Switch 1 classics and an all-new Mario Kart, Nintendo Switch 2 users will have a good handful of third-party titles to play at launch as well. But Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise won’t be joining the party.
While Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in September, no Assassin’s Creed games are officially confirmed to be heading to Nintendo’s next hybrid console. That needs to change, and there’s no better place to start than with the most recent entry in the long-running franchise, Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Why Assassin’s Creed Shadows Should Come to Nintendo Switch 2
It’s Been a While Since Nintendo Fans Got to Play an Assassin’s Creed
The original Nintendo Switch is home to a handful of Assassin’s Creed games, all of which were ported from previous consoles. Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection brings AC2, Brotherhood, and Revelations together under one roof, while Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered brings Connor Kenway’s American adventure to a new generation of players.
The last AC collection available on Nintendo Switch is Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection, which combines AC: Black Flag and AC Rogue into one seafaring package. When going by these games’ original release dates, it technically means that Assassin’s Creed Rogue is the last franchise entry that Nintendo users are able to play.
While Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is available on the Nintendo Switch via Cloud streaming, it’s only available in Japan. This means that Nintendo users outside of Japan haven’t had a new Assassin’s Creed experience since a 2019 collection of games that were originally released in 2013 and 2014. It’s about time Nintendo fans were let loose on the last decade’s worth of Assassin’s Creed.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Would Be an Ideal Nintendo Switch 2 Game
Assassin’s Creed Shadows may not be the most highly-regarded entry in the franchise, but it still earned a favorable reception from critics and many fans due to its engaging combat and beautifully-realized world. Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ open-world nature and story structure would pair wonderfully with Nintendo Switch 2’s handheld mode, as it’s best enjoyed in short bursts where players can really take their time.
The Switch 2 Seems Capable of Running Assassin’s Creed Shadows
But there’s one potential issue standing in Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ way. The Switch 2’s hardware still needs to prove it’s up to the task. Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Civilization 7, Hogwarts Legacy, and Street Fighter 6 are just a handful of the technically-demanding games releasing on Switch 2 during its launch window.
The jury’s still out on whether the Switch 2 can handle them or not, but if it can, there’s a strong chance Ubisoft could get a relatively uncompromised version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows to work as well. It doesn’t need to look as pretty as its PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X counterparts, but it can’t be another Mortal Kombat 1 on the Switch situation.
