‘Subnautica’ Announces Mobile Version Coming Soon
Subnautica is still quite possibly the most unique survival adventure game in history. Not least of which is its setting. Unknown Worlds Entertainment have crafted a truly amazing underwater survival game that takes frequent trips into oceanic horror, and is a very real and intense trigger for those who have thalassophobia. The game continues to be one of the best PC games out there and has long since made the transition to consoles as well.
Now, though, the game seems to be heading to a truly unique platform for it. Unknown Worlds Entertainment is proud to announce that Subnautica will get a mobile version for iOS and Android. They even have release a preorder trailer for this upcoming mobile version that reveals when we’re going to see it. Apparently, July 8, 2025 is when you will be able to dive into 4546B on your smartphone. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out that trailer on YouTube or below for yourself?
Subnautica Coming to Smartphones Everywhere Soon
Honestly, this is not the Subnautica news I expected to receive today. I don’t think any fan of that game expected to see this today. Still, it’s a most fascinating bit of news for various reasons, and not entirely unreasonable when you think about it. The game is very friendly to low-performance PCs. It barely needs anything to run at max graphics, much less mininum graphics, where a potato can practically run the game. With how powerful smartphones can be nowadays in the computing department, it’s no wonder that there’s now going to be a mobile version.
The most fascinating aspect of this is the control scheme. It seems to be especially adapted for smartphones, with various buttons to control depth and speed. There seems to be only a single hotkey though, allowing the player to switch to a single pre-selected item in their inventory, and that’s it. Understandable for a smartphone, but it will likely feel pretty limiting to veterans. Still, it’s not hard to deny that this would be a pretty unique way to play Subnautica. If you have the desire and money, it might be worth giving this mobile version a go just for the kicks.
What do you all think? Are you too willing to give the mobile version of Subnautica a try just to see how that touchpad control scheme works out? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
