Star Wars Is Coming to Unreal Editor for Fortnite

Fortnite has announced that its collaboration with Star Wars has only just begun, as it will soon be giving creators even more ways to engage with the franchise through the Unreal Editor. Epic Games recently launched its first Star Wars mini-season in Fortnite, which brought iconic characters like Emperor Palpatine, Mace Windu, and General Grivous to the island.

While the Star Wars season has been a big hit with fans of the popular franchise, Fortnite hit its lowest player count in two years during the month of May. Some people believe this could be due to the broad-sweeping nature of the collaboration, as those who aren’t fans of Star Wars might have been driven away. However, player numbers have been steadily declining in recent months, which could just be part of a trend. It’s likely that Epic Games is hoping to regain some of those players with the launch of Chapter 6 Season 3 in the near future, as the Galactic Battle mini-season is scheduled to end on June 7.

In a recent post on Twitter, Epic Games announced that even more Star Wars content will be coming to Fortnite in the future. During the State of Unreal presentation on June 3, Epic Games stated that it will be giving creators the tools to tell their own Star Wars stories with the Unreal Editor in Fortnite. This will allow fans to use iconic locations and characters to bring their own Star Wars experiences to life inside the world of Fortnite. While Epic Games and Disney did not give a firm release date for these new features, it’s is actively being worked on by the two companies.

As part of Fortnite‘s Galactic Battle mini-season, Epic Games launched a fully voiced AI version of Darth Vader in the game. The NPC functions similarly to previous characters, as players can have him join their squad and fight alongside them. However, unlike those NPCs, Darth Vader is capable of having full conversations with gamers, which is powered by AI. The iconic character is voiced by an AI version of James Earl Jones’ voice, who gave Disney the rights to use his voice for Darth Vader before he passed in September 2024. SAG-AFTRA is now suing Fortnite over its use of AI in the game, as there may have been a breach in an agreement between the two organizations.

While many people have enjoyed the collaboration with Star Wars, others are already looking toward the future. It was recently leaked that Chapter 6 Season 3 of Fortnite may be superhero-themed and could feature a collaboration with James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman. With so much content to enjoy and even more on the way, many fans are feeling optimistic about the future of Fortnite.
