South Carolina loses heartbreaker to LSU on epic College Game Day

The South Carolina football team lost a heartbreaker to the LSU Tigers on Saturday afternoon 36-33 in an epic game at Williams-Brice Stadium.

In a game full of momentum changes, ebbs and flows, and a whole lot of penalties, the Tigers came out on top on Saturday in a day that featured ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ in town.

Penalties killed the Gamecocks on Saturday as they had 13 penalties for a loss of 123 yards. Two of those penalties came after South Carolina’s defense came up with a pick-six, negating two defensive touchdowns.

One of those flags was for a horse caller in the first half while the other came in the fourth quarter and was for unnecessary roughness.

“I want to apologize to our fans,” South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said after the game. “13 penalties. You’re not gonna win football games in the SEC with 13 penalties.”

South Carolina got out to a 17-0 lead in this game and led 24-16 at halftime.

The other big storyline was quarterback LaNorris Sellers getting hurt at the end of the first half. He played one drive in the 3rd quarter but then never returned in the game.

After the game, head coach Shane Beamer said Sellers’ suffered an ankle sprain and he thinks Sellers should be fine.

Sellers came to the postgame press conference with ice on his right ankle.

LSU took the 36-33 lead with 1:12 to go in the game.

Quarterback Robby Ashford led South Carolina down the field on the final drive and got them into field goal range.

South Carolina kicker Alex Herrera missed the 49-yard field goal attempt, ending the game.
