THE shooting incident that occurred in New Corella, Davao del Norte, on May 12, 2025, which resulted in the death of Jundy Federiso, 45, the younger brother of incumbent and mayor-elect Monet Federiso, is considered a closed case, an official from the Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) said.
In an interview on May 14, 2025, PRO-Davao spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey confirmed that Jundy was declared dead after sustaining a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
“Na-declare na nga patay tung brother sa mayor tungod sa igo sa bala sa iyang ulo (He was declared dead due to a gunshot wound to the head),” she said.
According to initial reports, a verbal disagreement escalated into a gunfight between four individuals: Jundy on one side and three suspects on the other.
Two individuals were injured in the incident, including Mayor Federiso’s brother, who was pronounced dead on Monday. One suspect remains under police guard at the hospital while receiving treatment, while the other two are currently in police custody in New Corella.
Dela Rey commended the New Corella Police Station for their prompt response, which led to the immediate apprehension of two suspects.
Moreover, the case is considered solved after charges for murder and violations of Republic Act 10591, which pertains to the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, were officially filed against the suspects.
To recall, Comelec Regional Election Director Atty. Michael C. Abas recommended classifying Barangay Mesaoy as an “area of concern.” Its security status would be raised from Green to Yellow, citing threats of politically motivated violence and the presence of armed individuals.
