KOHIMA, OCTOBER 7 (MExN): Nagaland University’s Kohima Campus celebrated World Animal Day under the theme “Save Animals, Save Nature,” engaging around 70 participants in a series of slogan-writing and poster-making competitions.

The event was graced by Prof. G.T. Thong, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, who served as the chief guest. He was joined by Prof. P.K. Pattnaik, In-charge of the Animal Welfare Association (AWA), and members of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of the campus. Dr. Rashmi, a member of the NSS, chaired the proceedings.

In his address, Prof. Thong underscored the importance of animal welfare in preserving ecological balance. “The greatness of a nation is reflected in how it treats its animals,” he stated, urging attendees to foster compassion for animals and each other. He encouraged both students and faculty to embody the spirit of care for all living beings.

Prof. Pattnaik welcomed participants and judges, expressing gratitude for their contributions to the event’s success. He remarked that a love for all living beings is a fundamental aspect of humanity.

Following the competitions, Prof. Thong presented prizes to the winners, while Dr. Amitava Patra from the AWA offered a formal vote of thanks. The celebration not only highlighted animal welfare but also aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and compassion within the university community.
