Saturday Morning Garden Blogging Vol. 20.39 Fall is Coming, and it is Brown.
The once bright leaves will create the crispy mats upon the ground. It’s that brown and gold that hides the last of the summer green grass, and provides the compost that will nourish the soil come spring.
All Are Welcome!
This is a weekly blog with a fun vibe that often veers off gardening, so stop on by and join the conversation. The community adores both photographs and new people. We are here every Saturday at 8AM Central with new content and chit chat continuing throughout the week. We have a core crew that checks in each day, all comments are read.
Fall is a season of chores, endless cleaning. Last year I somehow managed to get all of it done, with a new job no less! This year a different, more taxing job. Yet, somehow, I need the respite of the outside chill and fading blue sky once I get home. Things in the yard are a lot less complicated. More steps on my fitness watch. A problem one solves with the self as a witness through the whole process. A large garden, a gift! Most days.
The Work Of Fall
-repotting plants during the outside to inside transition
-mowing, raking, mulching and layer laying
-feeding the soil with leaves, compost, soil snacks
-Wood chipping
-Plant garlic and tulip bulbs
-Water in all the trees and bushes
-Curse the damn sunflowers as one hacks at them
-Fill the refuse bags with the brush and small branches
-First fall spray for the fruit trees
-Clean out the storage areas for all that is to come
-Inventory
-Food processing. Jellies, Sauces and dehydrated snacks
Anyone else planning the 2025 garden or landscaping yet? I have dug out the garden graphing notebook and started sketching. Think I can keep the number of tomato plants under 50?
