Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid took to social media to express his heartfelt gratitude and reflection as GMA’s hit action series Lolong officially wrapped up its final taping day. In an emotional post, Madrid shared the physical, emotional, and personal journey he underwent portraying the beloved character.

“Lolong: Signing off. Kagabi, natapos na ang huling taping day ng Lolong. Hanggang ngayon, may sepanx pa rin. What a journey,” Madrid began.

The actor recalled the many challenges faced during the show’s production, including a serious injury that forced the team to alter the storyline. Despite the setbacks, he commended the entire cast and crew for their resilience and unity.

“Hindi naging madali—may mga sugat, luha, pagod, at sakripisyo. Dumaan kami sa matitinding pagsubok, lalo na nung hindi ako makagalaw dahil sa injury. Kailangan naming baguhin ang takbo ng kwento. Pero hindi tumigil ang laban. Hindi bumitaw ang bawat isa. Lahat nag-step up, nagkaisa, at piniling lumaban para sa isa’t isa.”

Madrid emphasized the importance of camaraderie, determination, and heart in achieving success, saying, “Pinilit kong bumangon at magtrabaho kahit may iniinda, dahil alam kong kailangan nila ako—at kailangan namin ang isa’t isa. Dahil para sa amin, ang totoong tagumpay ay nasa samahan, sa puso, at sa tibay ng loob.”

He went on to thank everyone involved in the project, noting the growth he experienced not just as an actor, but as a teammate and as a person.

“Marami akong natutunan—bilang artista, bilang kakampi, at bilang tao. At lahat ng ito, dadalhin ko habang buhay. Mahal ko kayo.”

Ruru expressed his deep appreciation for being given the rare opportunity to reprise a character he holds dear.

“I’m beyond grateful na muling bigyang-buhay ang karakter ni Lolong. Isang bihirang pagkakataon na maipagpatuloy ang kwento ng isang karakter na sobra kong minahal. To revisit his story, wear his skin again, and fight his battles—what a blessing.”

He also acknowledged the trust and support of GMA Network, GMA Public Affairs, and Sparkle, sharing, “At habang buhay akong magiging thankful sa GMA, GMA Public Affairs, at Sparkle—sa tiwala, suporta, at sa pagkakataong ibalik si Lolong sa ikalawang pagkakataon. Sobrang laking bagay nito para sa akin. Hindi ko ito kailanman kakalimutan.”

Madrid ended his message with a call to fans to stay with the show until its final airing, and a powerful tribute to the spirit of Filipino heroism:

“Salamat sa lahat ng sumuporta at sumama sa paglalakbay namin. Huling linggo na ng Lolong—sana samahan n’yo kami hanggang dulo. Para sa inyo ’to. Para sa bayan. Para sa bawat pusong lumalaban.”

“Hindi dito nagtatapos ang Lolong—dahil ang tunay na bayani, hindi kailanman nawawala. Kaya hanggang sa muli, paalam!”

Ruru Madrid is a Filipino actor, singer, and model best known for his roles in GMA Network’s television dramas. He first gained recognition as a finalist in the reality talent show Protégé: The Battle for the Big Artista Break in 2012. Since then, Ruru has starred in numerous TV series, including the fantasy-adventure series Lolong, where he played the titular role. He is in a relationship with actress Bianca Umali, and their pairing has been well-received by fans.

Meanwhile, Ruru Madrid said his wedding scene in ‘Black Rider’ is perhaps the most difficult he has done so far. According to the actor, they shot the whole wedding scene in the course of around two weeks. The actor then expressed his gratitude to the staff.
