Report: Bungie vet Barrett fired after inappropriate behaviour accusations

24-year Bungie veteran Chris Barrett reportedly was fired from the company following an investigation into accusations of inappropriate behaviour.

That’s according to Bloomberg, which reports that he was let go after at eight female members of staff complained to human resources about his conduct towards them. This includes flirtatious messages, calling female employees attractive and alluding to his ability to advance their careers due to his position at Bungie.

In a statement, Barrett said that his recollection of events is different to what has been reported.

“I feel that I have always conducted myself with integrity and been respectful and supportive of my colleagues, many of whom I consider my closest friends,” he wrote. “I never understood my communications to be unwanted and I would have never thought they could possibly have made anyone feel uncomfortable. If anyone ever felt that way about their interaction with me, I am truly sorry.”

In a separate statement, Sony did not reference Bungie’s investigation into Barrett specifically, but said that “all complaints of misconduct very seriously. It is our policy and practice to investigate every complaint promptly and take action based on the findings of our investigation.”

Barrett joined Bungie in 1999 and worked at the studio up until April 2024.
