REDMAGIC 10S Pro gaming phone supports PC games (thanks to emulation and an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite processor)

Gaming phones have been a thing for years at this point, offering bleeding edge features for playing Android games or running console games with an emulator. But the REDMAGIC 10S Pro takes things a step further by shipping with a “PC emulator” that could let you play some Windows games on a smartphone.

While this sort of software has been around for a while, it’s usually something that you need to install, configure, and fight with yourself. This is the first time I’m aware of that a phone maker has offered a phone with a PC emulator pre-installed. The REDMAGIC 10S Pro is available now in China for 4,999 CNY ($694) and up. A global version is set to launch June 5, 2025.

There’s also little information in REDMAGIC’s announcement about what games the PC emulator can handle or how well it runs, and of course a PC emulator is only as good as the hardware it’s running on. And in this case we’re still talking about a smartphone with a mobile processor that won’t offer the same level of performance you’d get from the latest Intel, AMD, or even Qualcomm chips for laptops.

But by smartphone standards, the REDMAGIC 10S Pro is pretty loaded. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Leading Edition processor, which is a version of Qualcomm’s fastest smartphone chip that runs at up to 4.47 GHz (rather than 4.32 GHz).

There’s also a RedCore R3 Pro chip to help with things like haptic feedback, touch sampling rate, and audio, among other things. And there’s an “ICE-X” cooling system that features liquid metal, a fan, and liquid cooling. There’s also RGB lighting that illuminates the fan and back panel.

The phone is available in several memory and storage configurations, ranging from 12GB of LPDDR5 memory and 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Other features include a 6.85 inch, 2688 x 1216 pixel display with a 44 Hz adaptive refresh rate and support for up to 2,000 nits peak brightness, a 7500 mAh battery with support for up to 120W fast charging, stereo speakers, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, and some gaming-specific features including a 2500 Hz touch sampling rate and shoulder triggers with 520 Hz polling.

Photography is handled by 50MP primary and 50MP ultra-wide angle rear cameras and a 16MP under-display front-facing camera.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are two different versions of the phone that are nearly identical. The REDMAGIC 10S Pro comes in 12GB/256GB or 16GB/512GB configurations and supports 80W fast charging, while the REDMAGIC 10S Pro+ supports 120W charging and comes in 16GB/512GB or 24GB/1TB variants. The rear panels also look a little different.

Both models measure 163.4 x 76.1 x 8.9mm and weigh 229 grams.
