Redly Games is Helsinki’s latest Supercell-backed startup

Supercell’s latest investment is Redly Games, a new Helsinki-based studio led by former Clash Royale game lead Thea Chow.

Chow announced the new outfit on LinkedIn, stating that the Redly Games team is fully remote and is making a “3D adventure game” in Unreal Engine 5. The title is codenamed Project Oasis and is described as cross-platform, but also “developed for and launched on mobile first.” It is currently in the prototyping phase.

Redly’s cofounder and CEO was previously working on Supercell’s forthcoming dungeon crawler mo.co, helping to establish its production model and see it through to its beta. Prior to that Chow was game lead on Clash Royale. She joined Supercell in 2021 from Kabam, where she was executive producer and senior development director. Chow has also worked as a producer at Next Level Games, working with Nintendo on Luigi’s Mansion 3.

“Our mission is to create deeply immersive adventures that inspire optimism and delight for millions of players,” said Chow. “We want our games to encourage cooperation and problem solving. And, we want our craft to be a platform for positive change in our world.”

“With our funding and the support of our investor, we’re poised to tackle these challenges and create experiences that captivate players worldwide,” Chow added, thanking the Supercell investment team and several senior staffers at the firm.

Redly Games joins a hosts of Supercell investee studios, many of whom are based in Helsinki. Metacore, Phantom Gamelabs and HypeHype are nearby in the Finnish capital, while further afield it has backed UK studios Space Ape, Trailmix and web3 studio Oxalis Games. It has also funded Australian Hot Lap League maker Ultimate Studio, a team devised of former EA Firemonkeys staff.
