Prince protégée Cat Glover dies at 60
Cat Glover — the singer, dancer and choreographer who worked with Prince during the peak of his career — has died. She was 60 years old.
Glover’s death was announced on her official Facebook page Tuesday night, Sept. 24.
“It’s with great sadness that we formally announce the passing of Catherine Vernice Glover — AKA ‘Cat,’” the post reads. “Please allow her children, family and friends privacy at this difficult time. A further statement will be released in due course. ‘Dance with the Angels, we love you.’”
A cause of death was not provided.
The Prince protégée was born Catherine Vernice Glover on July 23, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Clover’s passion for dancing started at age 5 and eventually led her to working with Prince, who Clover described as her idol.
“I first heard about Prince after his album, ‘Dirty Mind.’ I was living on my own on the North Side of Chicago,” Glover told the Chicago Crusader, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “The only thing that got me through my depression from everything was listening to Prince’s album, ‘Dirty Mind.’ I knew I had to meet him. That was me talking to my inner self.”
Clover worked with on several projects with the late music legend from the late 1980s onward. She choreographed and appeared in several of Prince’s videos and his concert film “Sign o’ the Times,” named after the singer’s ninth studio album that was released in 1987.
Clover traveled with Prince as a backing vocalist and dancer on the Sign o’ the Times Tour and Lovesexy Tour. She also rapped on the songs “Alphabet St” (1988) “Cindy C” (1994).
Following her work with Prince, Clover released her own EP “Catwoman” in 1989. She also moved to London where she recorded an album that Warner Bros. chose not to release, Entertainment Weekly reported in 2020.
