Poll protest seeks answers to questions

“We filed a protest with the Comelec today to bring clarity and obtain answers to questions,” former City of San Fernando mayoralty candidate Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab said.

She even called on the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to conduct a manual recount of votes cast in the May 12, 2025 city mayoral race.

Citing what she described as “questionable” and “statistically improbable” results, Pineda-Cayabyab said “It is not an option for me to avoid taking legal action regarding this matter.”

Her statement comes in the wake of an official election protest filed on May 22 before the COMELEC Main Office in Intramuros, Manila by her lawyer, Arnold Bayobay.

The protest challenges the outcome of the elections and requests a manual recount of ballots from all 239 clustered precincts in the city.

Pineda-Cayabyab said the results were marked by anomalies, including her failure to win even a single precinct.

The former Pampanga board member also cited the voting patterns that she says do not match expected demographic behavior.

“It is our duty to ensure that all votes of our constituents are counted properly,” she added.

Acknowledging the legal process as part of democratic norms, Pineda Cayabyab urged the public not to misinterpret the move. “This is still part of the election process in our democracy, so I hope this is not taken negatively.”

“We will now wait for the Comelec’s decision regarding this matter. Once again, thank you very much,” she said.
