PlayStation Plus gamers surprised with hefty free store credit thanks to bug

A helpful bug for once

Some PlayStation Plus users got hit by a bug recently but it turned out to be a nice bug. A helpful bug, really.

As reported on Reddit by Wolfo_CZ_SK, it seems that sometimes users can be given 500 points to redeem, as part of PlayStation Stars, for completing a campaign rather than the usual 50 points.

Sony has revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro console for those who want a bit more power behind their games

The post shows that the user was offered 500 points for completing a campaign to play some games from the mystery genre.

It was supposed to be 50 points according to other users. However, this isn’t the first time this bug has reared its head and bestowed points on a player.

Redditor dimmyjay said “Had a similar thing last month, I gained 500pts for playing a Tomb Raider game, was rare but I wasn’t the only one who had it. Seemed like a random bug, not region specific.”

Lots of players dashed over to the app to check how many points they were being offered and it came up as 50, which means either Sony fixed it, or it was a person-specific bug.

The further you go down in the thread the weirder it gets as others were being offered 250 points, or not receiving any reward after completing the task of playing a game in the list.

“Mine says 250? Edit: And it didn’t give me any points or let me complete the campaign. Played 2 different games from the list.” says tnivee who reported their situation.

It’s a multi-level bug then, it seems. For some it could work, for others maybe not. Regardless, as GreggsAficionado says, “PS stars is so buggy man haha.”

This comes a few months after PS Stars was completely unavailable for all users and Sony had to step in and implement a fix to get the service back up and running.
