In fact, Sally Acors, a manager at Sneed’s Nursery, said this is her favorite season to garden.

“A lot of people think it’s not as fun as spring, but really there’s a lot of other textures and color plays and options out there,” she said.

Some of her favorites include asters, echinaceas and heucheras.

“I would say echinaceas is the star of the show here right now at Sneed’s. There are so many different varieties and colors. They’re gorgeous,” she said.

Acors said during the fall months, plants require less water since they’re not dealing with the scorching heat. However, people still want to check their plant’s soil regularly.

“I always tell folks to stick their finger in about an inch and if it’s not wet about an inch or so, then your plant needs water,” Acors said.

Many people avoid watering their plants during the colder months, but she said that’s a bad idea.

“A lot of folks think that watering the pot would freeze, but actually, you want to water so the plant doesn’t undergo anymore stress being in a pot and not having enough water,” she said.

To make their garden flourish this fall, consider investing in a root inoculant like Protilizer.

“Basically, it just helps the plant not go into a transplant shock,” Acors said.
