Officer bitten by dog during arrests after fight on Orange Street

An Albany officer was bitten by a dog Saturday night, while attempting to arrest the dog’s owner following an altercation on Orange Street.

At around 10:20 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 300 block of Orange Street for reports of an assault. When they arrived, they learned that there had been a physical altercation between neighbors. It was determined that 28-year-old Shabrel Rollin of Albany punched a female victim in the face, resulting in swelling and bruising. While an officer attempted to place Rollin into custody, her pit bull attacked the officer, biting him in the upper thigh area. The officer’s partner fired one shot from his duty weapon, striking the dog in the shoulder area stopping the threat. The dog was later confirmed to be deceased.

Additionally, the assault incident resulted in the arrest of a second suspect. Barry Walker, 39, of Albany was arrested for strangling a second female victim, causing her to fall to the ground. According to police, while she was on the ground, Walker began striking her in the face, causing her to sustain swelling and bruising. Walker was also in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine at the time of his arrest.

The officer was treated on scene for several puncture wounds to his upper thigh area and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for further treatment and released.

Rollin has been charged with one count of Assault 3rd and one count of Criminal Mischief 3rd.

She was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court this morning and released.

Walker has been charged with one count of Assault 3rd, one count of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th.

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court Sunday morning and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
