The Galaxy Z Fold 2 will stop getting software updates going forward. Samsung has updated the list of devices that are eligible to receive security updates, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is no longer on that list.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 was eligible for three major Android OS upgrades, and the last of those upgrades—Android 13—was released in late 2022. Its final One UI update—version 5.1.1—was released in September last year, Since then, it has only been receiving security updates. But that stops now.
End of the line for Galaxy Z Fold 2 updates
The Fold 2 could get one last security update in some countries, but Samsung will end support for the second Fold model before the year is over. If you own a Galaxy Z Fold 2 and care about having the most up-to-date software, it’s time to upgrade.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is an excellent option for any Fold 2 owners looking to switch to a new phone, especially if they want their device to get updates for a long time to come. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, like all flagship Galaxy phones launched in 2024, will get Android, One UI, and security updates for seven years.
You could, of course, stick with your Fold 2 a little longer, especially if you don’t think the Galaxy Z Fold 6 offers enough hardware improvements. The Fold 6 is clearly better in a lot of ways, but the Fold lineup doesn’t receive massive year-on-year upgrades, unlike Samsung’s Galaxy S flagship lineup, so the Fold 6 isn’t a giant leap in every aspect.
