‘No major election-related incidents’ in Western Visayas

NO MAJOR election-related crime incidents were reported in Western Visayas during the national and local elections held Monday, May 12, 2025, according to the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6).

Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of PRO 6, attributed the peaceful conduct of the elections to the massive deployment of police personnel, engagement of volunteer groups, and intensified advocacy campaigns.

“We saw it coming. Our preparations were serious and pro-active,” Wanky said.

As early as January 12, before the official start of the election period, PRO 6 had already launched strategic preparations to maintain a peaceful, secure, and orderly electoral process. These included implementing a comprehensive security plan aimed at deterring criminality and threats that could disrupt the elections.

The police force was also aggressive in enforcing the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, monitoring the potential use of Private Armed Groups, and conducting intelligence operations to neutralize threats to peace and order.

Wanky said that close coordination with stakeholders and the community was essential to the success of their efforts.

He expressed gratitude for the support of stakeholders and the public in making this endeavor possible.

Although the voting has concluded, Wanky said security operations will continue.

He said PRO 6 remains on full alert until all election materials, especially automated counting machines, are retrieved and all results are transmitted. (Leo Solinap)
