If you’re lucky enough to be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches later this week, you’re going to want to make sure that you don’t mess with a seemingly harmless part of the console.
Well, folks, we’re nearly here – after years of rumours, months of leaks, and a surprisingly controversial reveal that hasn’t quite died down yet, the Nintendo Switch 2 is out in a matter of days. While I’m sure most of you are going to be rushing into Mario Kart World as soon as you get your hands on the Switch 2, you’re likely going to spend some decent time admiring the console itself.

Consoles almost never launch in June, and it’s throwing me off.
While the Switch 2 has been accused of not being innovative enough, early previews have made it clear that it’s quite an impressive machine that you’ll likely spend some time fiddling with. In that time, though, there’s one part of the console you’re not going to want to mess with, according to Nintendo.
Nintendo Asks Switch 2 Users Not To Remove Its Film Screen
You’ve Been Warned!
As pointed out by My Nintendo News, the part of the console that you’re going to want to leave alone is none other than the screen’s film layer. Earlier this week, Nintendo of Europe uploaded an official Switch 2 health and safety manual on its official website (thanks Nintendo Soup), which includes a warning about removing the console’s film layer.
Considering how harmless that seems, you might be wondering why you’re not supposed to touch it. Well, there’s a good reason – the screen is protected with a film layer to prevent fragments scattering in the case that you accidentally damage the Switch 2. As such, you’re not going to want to remove it from the console at all.

From the sounds of it, the film layer is basically acting like a screen protector for the Switch 2 that’s already installed on the console. It’s not really clear if we’ll be able to add any more screen protectors onto the Switch 2, or if we’ll even need to with the film layer already on, but your best bet for now is to leave it alone for as long as you can.
And yes, I know that’s going to be a challenge with how satisfying it is to peel off film from new tech. You can do it, though, I believe in you.
