Mayor Bullet Jalosjos ng TAPE sa Eat Bulaga: “The name stays with us”.
Mayor Bullet Jalosjos ng TAPE Inc. explains why they continue to use the name ‘Eat Bulaga’ for the remaining noontime show of Tito, Vic, and Joey. According to him, they obtained the trademark in 2011 and no one opposed their application. Therefore, he believes that Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey De Leon cannot bring the name with them to their new program on TV5.
On May 31, the trio of Eat Bulaga bid farewell to TAPE Inc., and on June 7, they confirmed their transfer to TV5.
Dapitan City Mayor Bullet Jalosjos of TAPE Inc. explained why Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey De Leon cannot use the name Eat Bulaga. In an interview with Pinky Webb of CNN Philippines, Jalosjos mentioned the trademark they obtained in 2011, as well as their initial application in 1991.
He also explained the contract with GMA, wherein it stated “TAPE Eat Bulaga.” This is the reason why they continue the program with new hosts.
“Eat Bulaga is really TAPE. In fact, the contract with GMA 7 is with TAPE Eat Bulaga. I don’t think… we need a lawyer, it takes a lawyer to understand that we have been running for 44 years. Even our grandparents know that Eat Bulaga is really in GMA 7. And we will uphold the contract with them, and them as well. So the show that we will show on channel 7 will always be Eat Bulaga.”
Here is the full interview with Chief Finance Officer of TAPE Inc., Mayor Bullet Jalosjos, from CNN Philippines:
Eat Bulaga is known as the longest-running noontime show not only in the Philippines but also in the world. It first aired in 1979 on RPN 9, followed by their stint as Kapamilya for 6 years, and their last home was GMA 7 for 28 years.
On May 31, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey De Leon surprised the public with their departure from TAPE Inc. Only on June 7 did the TVJ confirm that TV5 will be their new home, along with other former Eat Bulaga hosts.
