Main Page Of The Apple Store App Shows Face ID On A MacBook, Unclear If The Forthcoming M4 Variant Will Include The Upgrade

The new M4 MacBook Pro models are speculated to launch next month alongside the new iPad mini 7 and the entry-level iPad, but would there be any additional changes coming to the machines other than the new processor? It appears that the company could see fit to introduce some pretty nifty changes if it sees fit, and the upgrades could be more significant than anticipated. For instance, Apple could bring Face ID to the MacBook Pro, and one piece of evidence that supports the notion is the company’s new Apple Store app.

Apple Store app’s main screen shows the Face ID logo on the MacBook, but it could be random rather than intentional

Mark Gurman recently pointed out that the Apple Store app’s new graphics on the main page show the Face ID logo on the MacBook. The analyst is not sure if the new models will feature the new authentication technology, but given the fact that the MacBook Pro already features a notch at the top, it would not be wrong to presume the arrival of the new hardware.

Apple already uses Face ID technology on the iPhone, and the iPhone SE 4 will put an end to Touch ID for good, as it is expected to be identical to the iPhone 12 or iPhone 14 in terms of design and functionality. Additionally, the company has also transitioned the iPad Pro and iPad Air models to Face ID. At the same time, the iPad mini and entry-level iPad still comes with Touch ID in the Power Button.

We expected the iPhone SE 4 to shift to Face ID, but the upcoming iPad mini 7 and low-end iPad will continue to rock Touch ID. If you see the screenshot that Mark Gurman shared on X, the main page of the Apple TV app shows a wide range of logos and devices, including the Vision Pro. You can also see a Touch ID logo, which is situated outside the MacBook Pro’s depiction.

Apple could be working on making a switch, but there is not much proof to suggest that the upcoming M4 MacBook Pro will be the model to bring about the change. Face ID on a MacBook make a lot of sense as it would take a use directly to the main screen, eliminating the need to physically tap on the Touch ID button. This is not only faster but more secure as well, and users have been wanting the technology for a while now.

Do take the news with a grain of salt, as the Face ID logo on the MacBook Pro in the Apple Store app’s main screen could be a random addition rather than an intentional one. So far, we are expecting the MacBook Pro models to feature the same design on the outside with no hardware changes, but the internals would be upgraded to the latest M4 SoC and possibly WiFi 7 for enhanced connectivity.
