LTO, LTFRB Davao Crack Down Unsafe PUVs

IN A bid to reduce road crashes linked to mechanical failure, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region XI and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have launched surprise inspections targeting public utility vehicles (PUVs) across the Davao Region.

LTO Regional Law Enforcement Section Head Yuri H. Lim said they formed a composite inspection team composed of personnel from both LTO and LTFRB to conduct weekly, unannounced visits to garages of PUV operators, focusing on identifying defective units.

“Kapag nagkaroon po ng findings sa mga defective units… hindi na po i-allow ipagamit sa driver pag hindi po ma-comply ‘yong mga findings.” Lim said.

(If there are findings in the defective units we do not allow them to be used by the driver until they have complied with the findings.)

The process is straightforward but firm. If defects are found during inspections, LTFRB is immediately informed and tasked with notifying the operator. Simultaneously, LTO withholds the vehicle’s pre-inspection approval, LTO effectively grounding the unit until all issues are resolved.

Lim also reminded the public that ensuring road safety involves not only government agencies but also all drivers, pedestrians, and vehicle operators.

“Magtulungan po tayo para we will have a safe [road environment] para sa ating lahat at para sa future generations. And of course, kailangan natin ipagmalaki pagka Davaoeño — Disiplinado.” Lim said.

(Let us cooperate so we will have safer roads for us all and for the future generations. And of course we take pride in our becoming disciplined Dabawenyos.) PIA DAVAO
