Local girls raise and show their livestock animals

At the Ouachita County Fair this year there were several local youth who showed their livestock animals — among them was Sadie Creech and her sister Melaina.

Sadie, 16, of Camden, attends Camden Fairview High School as a junior and she was proud to show her pig, Penelope at this year’s county fair.

Sadie said this was her second year showing animals at the fair and that she started with goats, but decided to make the switch to pigs.

According to Sadie, pigs are more involved to work with and that is why she prefers them to goats.

Sadie’s pig, Penelope is a 6-7 month old Hereford pig who weighs around 203lbs.

Penelope, according to Sadie, “Has a bad attitude sometimes. She’s sassy, but sweet.”

Sadie and her father, Justin Creech, a Ouachita County Sheriff’s Deputy, said she works with Penelope for about two hours every day.

Sadie said recently they had to work with Penelope a little more due to an injury to Penelope’s back foot which caused them to have to help the pig rebuild muscle in her foot.

When asked what she likes most about working with the livestock animals, Sadie said she likes seeing how they grow up and develop personality. She said she also enjoys helping the younger kids with their animals.

Sadie helps out her younger sister, Melaina, age 8, with her goat, Buck.

Melaina also showed her goat at this year’s county fair.

While Sadie said she is unsure of what she would like to do with her pig, she said that she hopes she will be able to breed her.
