Lilbits: New iPad mini, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini on the way, Surface Duo 2 is dead(er) and so are emuDeck machines

The first Apple device to ship with an M4 processor was the 2024 iPad Pro, which launched in May of this year. But it looks like there could be a whole bunch of additional M4-powered devices on the way, and soon. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is preparing new laptops and desktops with M4 series processors, and some could launch as soon as November 1st. Apple is also said to be planning to launch a new iPad mini.
Meanwhile, not all of today’s tech news is about new products ready to come into the world. Some is about old products reaching end of life… or failing to ever come to fruition in the first place. Here’s a roundup of recent tech news from around the web.
Apple may launch new Mac laptops, desktops and a new iPad mini on Nov 1 [Bloomberg]
Reliable Apple watcher Mark Gurman reports that Apple is preparing to introduce a new set of products on November 1st, possibly including a new Mac Mini with M4 and M4 Pro processor options, a new M4 iMac, and new 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pros with M4 chips (the 14 inch model is said to come in low-end and high-end configurations). There may also be a new iPad mini on the way. This would be the first update for Apple’s 8 inch tablet since 2021. We could see additional new Macs, iPads, and accessories in the first half of 2025.

Microsoft had already largely abandoned the Surface Duo 2 dual-screen Android smartphone. But the company has been releasing security updates for the phone since it launched in 2021. Now it’s done: the final update is rolling out now. I guess you could try installing a different operating system on it.

The EmuDeck Machine crowdfunding campaign has been canceled [@EmuDeck]
This summer the developer behind EmuDeck, a script that streamlines installation of retro console emulation software on Linux-based operating systems like SteamOS, launched a crowdfunding campaign for mini PCs with a retro console-inspired design and support for emulation software that would let you play the games that ran on similar-looking systems. But the campaign was going so poorly that it’s been canceled before it concluded.
