Learn to grow Tennessee at Extension fall gardening classes | Lifestyles

Extension Cumberland County welcomes all Tennessee newcomers to the Cumberland Plateau.

“As you settle into your new home, you might be excited about exploring the unique gardening opportunities that come with living on the beautiful Cumberland Plateau,” said Vanessa Jennings, administrative associate with Extension Cumberland County.

“We’re thrilled to offer you the chance to join our Fall Garden Series, Welcome Home to Tennessee, designed especially for newcomers like you,” she added.

This series of informative sessions are designed to help newcomers make the most of their new gardens.

They’re taught by experienced horticulture educators and are ideal for those looking to start or enhance their Tennessee garden.

Classes are 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesdays in October at The Country Store at the Cumberland County Community Complex, 1398 Livingston Rd., Crossville.

Upcoming classes include:

Oct. 8. Sustainability in Your Lawn and Landscape

Oct. 15. Herbaceous Plants: Annual and Perennials

Oct. 22. Woody Ornamentals: Shrubs and Trees.

“Each week, you’ll get to participate in local labs and activities that bring the teachings to life, and provide you an opportunity to ask questions specific to our area,” Jennings said.

Those who participate will gain insights tailored to specific climate and soil conditions of the Volunteer State.

They will also receive a new Extension publication created especially for new Tennessee residents and beginning gardeners.

Fee is $40 for the series. Go to tinyurl.com/Welcome2TNGardens to register, or call Extension Cumberland County at 931-484-6743 for more information.
