GARDEN — Established in 1975, the Garden Peninsula Historical Society began an annual event of honoring the elder residents from the area in 1978. This year’s celebration was held at the Garden Community Center on Sept. 15 and honored ten past and present residents who had reached the age of 80. The celebration began with a buffet dinner followed by the reading of their biographies. Each honoree is presented with an Honorary Membership Certificate into the Historical Society.
The event brings together friends, neighbors, and family members, some who had moved away were able to reconnect with their community with laughter and tears. Honorees were encouraged to bring in a picture board with their life story for everyone to enjoy.
