Home Remodeling Showcase features trends in home remodels

The premier showcase of newly renovated homes in Tulsa will be this weekend at the 24th annual Home Remodeling Showcase.

The Remodelers Council of the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa presents the showcase. Homes on display showcase a variety of remodeling projects from the area’s top remodelers.

Homeowners participating in the showcase open their homes to the public to show a variety of remodeling projects, the project design process, products and appliance selections, and discuss homeowner preferences with the public.

Home builder and remodeler Dana Day transformed a 1938 Maple Ridge home at 1203 E. 30th Place.

Nestled high on a corner lot, the house offers great views from all around. The three bedroom, three bath, 3,282-square-foot house was renovated inside and out. All three bedrooms were modernized and the house also has updated luxury bathrooms, and new modernized windows and doors.

The kitchen received an upgrade with new state-of-the-art kitchen appliances and a new enlarged island. The back patio has a full outdoor kitchen that includes a built-in grill and separate hibachi cooktop and an outdoor area for entertainment.

The homeowner worked with SR Hughes to choose many of the finishes for the home, including a new paint palette to freshen up the interior and exterior.

“There were several challenges to this 1938 remodel,” Day said. “We ran into old plumbing, uneven floors, layers of old wallpaper and paint throughout the house and so much more. When my homeowner bought it, it was a house. Now, it’s her home.”

Scott Burnett of Burnett Home Improvement started with a “dark and gloomy” home at 6825 E. 105th St. and “opened everything up.” That included adding 73 fiberglass windows and 10 exterior doors.

“Many of the windows were large and that really brought light into all of the main rooms,” Burnett said.

They also added top-of-the-line security to the house and transformed the exterior.

“The siding was concrete, and that is not very attractive. Strong, but not attractive. We replaced it with shake siding called select polymer siding, which will never need maintenance. It looks like wood, but there is no maintenance,” Burnett said.

His remodel mirrored the current trends that homeowners are seeking, Burnett said, by opening up the house while also using materials that will never have to be replaced.

“People are wanting to bring the outside in where you feel like you are outdoors but you are not,” Burnett said. “Another thing our customers are looking for is security and not having to maintain things. People are done with painting their house a bunch of times. All the products we carry are just a one-time deal. Once we are done, the homeowner is done.”

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, and noon to 5 p.m Sunday, Sept. 22. All of the admission ticket sales to the showcase benefit the designated charity every year. This year, proceeds from the event will benefit John 3:16 Mission.
