Garden Club of Lake Zurich — ‘The Bat Facts’: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. Join from the program, “The Bat Facts.” Come and learn more about bats as they continue to coexist with other flying mammals and compete for food and habitat around Lake County. Fall Planting Party Workshop: 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Heinz Brothers Garden Center, 2010 E. Main St., St. Charles. Let Heinz Brother’s help you select and plant many cold-tolerant foliage and flowering plants. Fall planters are a great transition and last through cold temperatures with no problems. South Barrington Garden Club: 9 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month, South Barrington Tennis Club, 3 Tennis Club Lane, South Barrington. Come for a hands-on project; make your own fall decoration. Preparing Bulbs for Spring — Ideas from Amsterdam’s Keukenhof Garden: The “Greatest Flower Show on Earth!” Learn what bulbs to choose, when and where to plant, and the best companion plants. Discover how you can get the longest possible flowering season in the smallest possible space. Presented by Bev Krams, a Master Gardener with the North Cook County District for more than 15 years. Fall Festival & Bulb Sale: Members only: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4; General public: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6, at Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake-Cook Road, Glencoe. The 2024 festival is anchored by the Fall Bulb Sale in the Regenstein Center. Shop for more than 200 varieties of bulbs. Choose from a wide variety of daffodils, tulips, alliums and other specialty bulbs. The bulbs are shipped directly from Holland, just in time for fall planting. The Fall Bulb Sale will also offer hyacinths, peonies, and amaryllis, as well as “Bulb Boost” bulb fertilizer. The Fall Festival offers sweet treats, music, and fun for kids of all ages. The straw bale maze and the gourd mountain ensure that everyone can find a way to celebrate the season. Admission is free for garden members. Regular parking and admission fees apply for nonmembers. Emerson St. Lisa Hilgenberg, the Regenstein Fruit and Vegetable Garden horticulturist at Chicago Botanic Garden, will present, “Houseplants Are Hip.” Join and learn about houseplant trends and the best foliage and flowering plants for low, medium or bright light. Des Plaines Garden Club — Fall Luncheon: 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Manzo’s Banquets, 1571 Elmhurst Road, Des Plaines. Peggy Garvin from Horticulture by Garvin Gardens will present, “Fall and Holiday Flower Arrangements.” A choice of two entries is available for the luncheon. There will be a raffle, an instant win board, a silent auction and a bake sale. There will also be a 50/50 raffle with proceeds going to the club’s Scholarship Fund. The cost is $45 per person. Garden Club of Inverness Luncheon: On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Garden Club of Inverness will be hosting its annual holiday luncheon at Medinah Country Club with the theme “Sleigh Bells Ring.” The event will feature a silent auction, Christmas crafts, and a raffle in addition to a presentation on floral arrangements for the holidays.
