Google delays Android 15 release; Pixel devices to get update in October

The One UI 7.0 beta update was supposed to be released in July but was delayed. It was expected to be available in late August, but that didn’t happen either, as Samsung has decided to wait until more bugs are resolved. Now, it appears that Samsung isn’t the only one delaying the release of its next major update. Even Google has delayed the release of the stable Android 15 update to Pixel devices.

Android 15 release has been postponed to October 2024

While many hoped to see the stable Android 15 update release next month, that isn’t going to happen, at least according to an Android Authority report. The report claims that Google won’t release the stable Android 15 update to Pixel smartphones and tablets in September. Instead, the company is planning to release the update in October 2024.

That would align with the release of Android 14 last year, which happened in October 2023. Since Google launched its new Pixel devices two months earlier this year, it couldn’t release a new version of Android with its latest phones. Last year, Google released Android 14 and the Pixel 8 series simultaneously.

Since Google is considered the gold standard in terms of Android updates and will not release Android 15 to its phones until October, we think Samsung shouldn’t be criticized for the delayed release of the One UI 7.0 Beta Program.

What to expect from One UI 7.0?

Samsung is expected to open the One UI 7.0 Beta Program next month. The update is based on Android 15 and will reportedly bring major UI changes, including a new Quick Panel layout, improved notifications, new widgets, new app icons, a completely revamped Camera app, and smoother animations and transitions. It could also introduce a simple way to lock apps.

The Galaxy S24 series will likely get the first dibs on the One UI 7.0 beta update. The South Korean firm could add more high-end Galaxy devices to the One UI 7.0 Beta Program, which could be available in China, Germany, India, the UK, and the USA. The stable update could be released before the end of this year.
