Microsoft has also raised the price of its systems and games, and there are now rumors that the Nintendo Switch 2 will follow suit, evidently igniting the mentality that “Well, if Nintendo is doing it, so shall we”
Given the recent price increases from Microsoft and Nintendo, PlayStation fans have good reason to be concerned about the PS6’s potential price.
As the new generation of gaming consoles approaches, most gamers are reluctant to pay the entire RRP, therefore the price usually decreases gradually. The Nintendo Switch 2 is about as powerful as the PlayStation 4, a system that was first released in November 2013. When you say that aloud, it doesn’t sound like much of a generational jump, especially for a console that costs $536, according to tech specialists Digital Foundry.
But arguably more than other video game systems, Nintendo has always been the one that charges for access to its unique games, such Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, and others.

The console’s price isn’t a big deal in that regard, particularly considering that its manufacturing costs are apparently not significantly lower than the RRP, which is closely affecting Nintendo’s profit margin.
Fewer people may be buying the new console at launch and for a number of good reasons. For example, Mario Kart World costs $101, which is $20 more than the original Switch games.
Microsoft has also raised the price of its systems and games, and there are now rumors that the Nintendo Switch 2 will follow suit, evidently igniting the mentality that “Well, if Nintendo is doing it, so shall we.” Furthermore, according to Polygon, Sony is thinking of raising the price of the PlayStation 5 and its peripherals a second time, possibly affecting games as well, even though it has already raised costs.
It appears that President Donald Trump’s outrageous import tariffs and the “current economic climate” are the same justifications being used by Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
All of this occurs at a time when companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony generate billions of dollars in profits annually. This is reminiscent of how gas companies and supermarket stores raised their rates during the COVID-19 pandemic, making record profits in the process.

Because of this, players are understandably worried about the potential price of next-generation consoles; as of this writing, the PlayStation 5 Pro retails for $948. What will the PS6 cost when it launches?
“At a minimum, I won’t get a new console until the PS6 Pro comes out, because, let’s be real, there will definitely be one,” said one Redditor. “PS6 Pro, $1,000,” predicted another.
“The Tariffs in the USA mean a weaker dollar compared to the Euro. There are no new Tariffs in the EU. But we get a price hike for both consoles? It seems the EU is subsidising consoles in the US,” exclaimed a third. “Do you remember when it was a pricey launch model, then the slim model would be cheaper?” asked a fourth.
