Gabbi Garcia reveals ‘dream role’ is to star in GL project
Kapuso actress and host Gabbi Garcia has revealed a dream role she has yet to take on: starring in a Girls’ Love (GL) story.
Joined by fellow actresses Maymay Entrata and Lovi Poe in a recent episode of Netflix Philippines’ “Bida/Bida”, Gabbi spoke about her interest in portraying a character in the GL genre which centers on romance between two women—something she believes would be a new and exciting challenge in her career.
“Ako, dream role ko, hindi pa ako nakakapag-GL… Girls’ Love. I haven’t done that,” revealed Garcia.
Lovi, whom had already played in a GL series before with Janine Gutierrez in “Sleep With Me”, briefly described the experience, saying, “It felt so great,” before playfully chiming in, “I kissed a girl and I liked it.”
Garcia went on to stress about the importance of growth and versatility in acting, especially in various genres.
“As an actor, it’s constantly reinventing yourself in all the roles that you’re going to portray, kasi siyempre hindi pwedeng pare-parehas,” she explained. “Actually, that’s challenging — for example, you get so many projects in one genre, so you have to constantly reinvent yourself.”
Netizens showed strong support for Gabbi’s desire to take on a queer role, with some recalling her previous statement during a TikTok Live where she expressed interest in doing a GL project with fellow actress Kylie Padilla.
During that session, the two even mentioned wanting to work alongside Kapuso stars Glaiza De Castro and Rhian Ramos — who famously portrayed a couple in the 2015 GMA series “The Rich Man’s Daughter” and are set to star in their first-ever GL movie together, “I Fell, It’s Fine”.
Meanwhile, former Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition housemate Emil Daez also shared a similar openness when asked if he would consider starring in a Boys’ Love (BL) project with fellow evictee Michael Sager.
The two are fondly referred to by fans as “MiLi,” a name they coined during their time as a duo in the PBB house which has continued to gain support even after their exit from the show.
