Free medical care for pets of those experiencing homelessness
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Two Dane County organizations are coming together to provide free medical care to pets of those experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
Employees of Underdog Pet Rescue and Vet Clinic started the Madison chapter of The Street Dog Coalition in 2022. In 2023, four events were held that helped dozens of pets. This year, they have expanded and are offering five dates, one each month, to help serve the Madison community.
Underdog Founder Lauren Brinkman explains that the need for these services across Dane County is growing.
“The people who are needing these services are sometimes almost in tears coming in, knowing that they do what they want to be doing and providing excellent care for their pets.”
Underdog currently has a new location where these clinics will be held. The new building is located at 2508 S. Stoughton Road in their warehouse section of the clinic.
Wednesday, the free clinic will run from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The remaining 2024 clinic dates are:
- October 30, 2024 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- November 20, 2024 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- December 18, 2024 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
In addition to the free veterinary exams and services, owners and their pets can receive things like toiletry kits, pet supplies, water, and snacks. There will also be vouchers for pet spay and neuter, and other basic surgical care will be available as well.
