In a chilling report by KBS World, police revealed that Ji said he had given his wife and two sons sleeping pills before driving their car into the sea, with Ji then escaping from the submerged vehicle alone, leaving his family behind which eventually led to their tragic passing this year.
Authorities said autopsies will be performed on the victims to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, a report from Maeil Business Newspaper indicated that police are expanding their investigation to include an acquaintance of Ji, who allegedly transported him to Gwangju as well.
In the same report, Ji apparently told the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station on the 3rd that, “I was tired of the huge debt, so I gave my wife and two sons sleeping pills and drove them to the sea.”
Needless to say, this case has since sparked a wide discussion among netizens on social media.
