‘Fall in the Gardens’ kicks off at West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center

JACKSON, Tenn. — Calling all gardeners to a fun, free and educational event happening in the Hub City!

The University of Tennessee Gardens, Jackson, is hosting their annual fall plant sale and lecture series. This is a 2-day event, taking place at the West Tennessee Ag-Research Center.

Thursday, participants went on guided tours where they could shop from various local vendors and attend presentations from guest speakers.

“It’s just been wonderful. I thought I knew a lot about plants but I’ve really learned a whole lot and I’m here getting plants for myself and I’m also getting them for my neighbor,” said Vicky Lovelace, Master Gardener.

There are more than 250 different kinds of plants offered at the sale with annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs among them. Organizers say the wide assortment offered here works great in the West Tennessee climate.

“So the fall plant sale has been going on for a long time but people are actually realizing fall is a great time to plant trees and shrubs and perennials because you don’t have to water them as much. They get established and they really get started better in the spring if you plant them in the fall,” said Jason Reeves, horticulturist for UT Gardens, Jackson.

Proceeds from the plant sale support internship programs and also go back into the gardens to help fund projects that are completed each year. If you missed the event Thursday, you can still attend Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Friday’s events will feature the plant sale only.
