The two games are nearly polar opposites of each other, yet could have the potential to reach popularity with a wide range of gamers. The two games are Deathloop, developed by Arkane Lyon, and Ogu and the Secret Forest, developed by Moonlab and Sinkhole Studio. The former is a well-received, critically acclaimed FPS, and the latter is a 2D indie adventure game with a solid rating but modest following. The latter was released on Epic Games earlier on June 5, making the free offering a day one release, despite the game itself launching in 2024.
Deathloop is definitely the bigger name of the two. It earned critical acclaim for its many unique FPS gameplay mechanics. The roguelike elements were fun and well-balanced, making it accessible for players. PvP missions, creative combat, and abilities round out the game’s strengths. Deathloop originally released for PS5 in 2021 and was considered one of the best releases of the year, with Xbox fans equally excited in 2022. Ogu and the Secret Forest is a 2D adventure game and is largely seen by users as an under-the-radar gem. According to Game Rant, “According to SteamDB data, Moonlab and Sinkhole Studio’s 2D adventure peaked at 1,070 concurrent Steam players shortly following its summer 2024 launch—a decent figure for an indie title that indicates its overall sales are in the tens of thousands.
