Epic Games Store Closes Out May With Fantasy Mayhem and Indie Horror
In a proper conclusion to its May 2025 mystery giveaway event, the Epic Games Store has revealed its last two free games for the month—Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and Limbo. Both titles went live to claim on May 29 at 11 AM ET, with players having through June 5 to add them to their libraries for free.
Shift to Mystery Giveaways Continues
Epic started to change its strategy earlier in the month, swapping its typical advance notice of free games with a series of surprise giveaways in which each title doesn’t reveal its identity until it’s up for grabs. Since the switch on May 8, Epic has debuted five mystery games. Now, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and Limbo are the sixth and seventh instalments in this new model of promotion, with two more surprises set to hit stores on June 5.
A First-Time Freebie: Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
The headline free title of the week is Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a fantasy take on the familiar Borderlands looter-shooter gameplay. Released in March 2022, the game drops players into a wacky tabletop RPG experience crafted by the mad character Tiny Tina. The gameplay combines magic, melee fighting, and Borderlands-style shooting, with comedic narrative and RPG tailoring.
It is the first time that the entire game has been made available for free on Epic’s platform. It does, though, follow Epic’s long history with the Borderlands franchise, which itself has seen giveaways such as Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (2020), Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep (2021), and Borderlands 3 (2022).
It currently sits at $59.99, and on OpenCritic, it has a “Strong” rating with an average score of 78, where 76% of critics are recommending it. These numbers sit above some of the less well-regarded spin-offs of the series but still below the original Borderlands games in terms of overall reception.
Indie Classic Limbo Returns
Participating in Tiny Tina’s journey is an entirely different adventure—Limbo, the highly praised indie puzzle-platformer from Danish developer Playdead. Initially released back in 2010, Limbo is synonymous with monochrome art direction, haunting atmosphere, and stripped-back narrative. Since then, it has become a classic of the indie genre, inspiring numerous imitators and racking up dozens of industry awards.
This is Limbo’s second release as a free game on the Epic Games Store, after its first giveaway back in July 2019. At 15 years old, it still remains one of the genre’s most artistically profound titles.
What’s Next: More Mystery Games in June
With both Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and Limbo still up for grabs until June 5, the Epic Games Store is gearing up for the fourth week of its mystery game giveaway. Two additional titles with unknown names are ready to go live on the same day the current giveaways expire, continuing the storefront’s revamped strategy of surprise giveaways.

As Epic continues to push closer to the suspenseful format, gamers can anticipate increasingly unexpected additions to their collections in the coming weeks. Whether action-RPG shooters or atmospheric indie classics are their thing, the promotion currently underway illustrates Epic’s dedication to presenting a broad catalog of free experiences.
