DMSF Condemns Bullying and Disrespect

THE Davao Medical School Foundation, Inc. (DMSF) has strongly condemned bullying and disrespect directed at its students.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Saturday, January 25, 2025, the school said, “The Davao Medical School Foundation, Inc. strongly condemns all forms of bullying, disrespect, and malicious intent toward our students,” the school said in their Facebook post on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

DMSF further stated that such behavior is unacceptable and goes strongly against the values of respect and integrity that they uphold as an institution. “Words and actions, whether online or offline, have consequences.” They urged the public to foster positivity by uplifting others instead of causing harm.

This response came after a Davao-based vlogger allegedly made racist remarks about an Indian individual in his content. The vlogger explained that he intended the video to be humorous and claimed the community’s reaction was why it gained attention.

In a now-deleted video, the vlogger defended his intentions, saying, “Kung walang siguro reaction sa mga tao na negative non I would continue, naming tagline ko na love and respect, bless then love (If there were no negative reactions from people, I would continue. My tagline is ‘Love and respect, bless then love).”

He further clarified that his goal was a comedy, not offense, but admitted his humor sometimes crosses the line.

“Sorry paminsan moron akong pagka siguro bully siguro ako hindi nman siguro masabi na hateful ako na person kasi happy man ako sa life ko (Sorry, sometimes I might come off as a bit of a bully, but I wouldn’t say I’m a hateful person because I’m happy with my life),” he added.

DMSF’s statement underscores the broader context of anti-bullying efforts in the Philippines. Republic Act No. 10627, the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, mandates all schools to implement measures to prevent bullying.

In severe cases, the law allows for criminal charges under existing statutes and rehabilitation measures, such as counseling and therapy, for both victims and perpetrators. RGP
