Community garden established to benefit all in Midfield area

A new community garden is now ready for folks in the Midfield area.A groundbreaking event was held Oct. 5 for the new Midfield/Holt Community Garden Pavilion located at a fire station on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.A news release stated the new garden will provide fresh produce to local senior citizens and nearby residents with limited incomes.The project includes raised garden beds for people with disabilities and a shaded pavilion which serves as an outdoor classroom to help teach children and adults how to grow their own food and learn healthy eating habits.The garden was made possible with a $20,000 grant to the Jefferson County Master Gardener Association, funded by the Cawaco Resource Conservation and Development Council in partnership with the Alabama Legislature.Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WVTM 13
