Calling all animal lovers in the Overstrand area
Join the Stanford CPF and SAWS’s march against animal cruelty.
Stanford Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Stanford Animal Welfare Society (SAWS) have joined forces and organised an anti-cruelty against animals march that will be held this Saturday (31 August).
This follows a number of incidents in recent months where animals were badly abused, neglected and even stabbed. In one incident, someone’s beloved pet was found hanging from a tree (“SAWS takes a firm stand”, Hermanus Times, 7 August 2024). Following this heinous crime, SAWS and the Stanford CPF handed a petition signed by more than 400 people over to the Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, who indicated she would forward it to Overberg District Police Commissioner Major General Miriam Mochologi.
Now, the CPF and SAWS invites all animal lovers to speak up for the defenceless animals by joining a peaceful march that will set off from the local community hall, known as Die Stoor, at 09:15 on Saturday 31 August.
“Bring a poster, bring a banner and meet us outside the Community Hall on 31st August at 9:15 am sharp,” reads the invitation.
Vanessa Tedder of the CPF stated: “We will march to the police station to hand a letter to the police, calling on authorities to take more decisive action against perpetrators of animal abuse. The march is also aimed at drumming up awareness in our community. Stanford has in recent times seen a growing trend in animal cruelty incidents. A petition signed by more than 400 Stanford residents was handed over to Overstrand Mayor Annelie Rabie last month. Saturday’s march is to reinforce the plea of that petition!”
