Just before Hurricane Francine, the LSU community welcomed adorable animals into their homes for the week.

Companion Animal Alliance Animal Shelter in Baton Rouge asked that the community consider fostering a cat or dog during the hurricane. LSU students did not hesitate to head over to this shelter to foster a temporary pet.

Fostering not only allows shelters to free up space for potential lost strays brought in during the storms, but also helps shelters avoid overcrowding in their facility.

Many students, including Bella Cordova, rose to the occasion to not only give these animals special company as the hurricane passed, but to also promote their adoption in the future.

“I saw their post on Companion Animal Alliance. They said that they needed emergency fosters for all of the animals in the shelter,” Cordova said. “So, I talked to all of my roommates about it. We all agreed and we headed to the shelter. We fell in love with her, and we brought her home.”

The puppy she brought home, which is named Loki, enjoyed the company of Bella and her roommates as they hunkered down for the bad weather.
