Apple's newest M4 iPad Pros finally get iPadOS 18 update

Apple released iPadOS 18.0.1 on Thursday, finally allowing owners of M4 iPad Pro models to update to the latest operating system after an initial delay.
The update, which comes two weeks after the initial iPadOS 18 release, addresses an issue that caused some M4 iPad Pros to become unresponsive when attempting to install the original iPadOS 18 update. Apple had temporarily pulled the update for those devices to resolve the problem.
iPadOS 18.0.1 is available for all iPad models compatible with iPadOS 18, including the latest M4-powered iPad Pro.Users can download the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update on their devices.
In addition to enabling the update for M4 iPad Pros, iPadOS 18.0.1 includes bug fixes for other issues:

  • Fixes a problem where Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face
  • Addresses performance impacts due to a memory allocation issue on some iPad models

iPadOS 18, first released in September, introduces several new features including a redesigned Control Center, new customization options for the Home Screen, and updates to core apps like Photos, Safari, and Notes. It also adds a dedicated Calculator app to the iPad for the first time.
The release of iPadOS 18.0.1 means all current iPad models, including the latest M4 iPad Pros, can now take advantage of these new features.
