Apple Releases iPadOS 17.7 for M4 iPad Pro After Pulling iPadOS 18 Over Bricking Issues

Apple has released iPadOS 17.7 for its M4 iPad Pro models after pulling the iPadOS 18 update.

Shortly after the launch of iPadOS 18.0, some users began reporting that their M4 iPad Pro would no longer power on. The company then stopped signing the release while it investigated.

Yesterday, @StellaFudge revealed that the update was causing some devices to behave as though they had no power.

Apple is currently investigating an issue where the iPadOS 18 update makes some iPad Pro M4’s behave as if they’ve got no power. Apple has temporarily taken down the iPadOS 18 update for this model and advised technicians to Hard Reset the device before attempting anything else.

Today, MacRumors obtained an Apple service memo confirming the issue.

The memo, obtained by MacRumors, states that a “small number” of these iPad Pro models are unable to power on after a customer attempted to install iPadOS 18 on the device. Apple is working to resolve the issue, and it has made iPadOS 18 unavailable on affected iPad Pro models in the meantime, according to the memo.

iPadOS 17.7 with build number 21H16 was released for the M4 iPad Pro yesterday. You can download it here. It’s unclear if this release is related to the fix for iOS 18.
