Amanzimtoti SPCA Desperately Needs Help to Continue Animal Rescue Efforts

The Amanzimtoti SPCA has faced immense challenges due to repeated vehicle hijackings. Despite this turbulent storm, they have remained committed to protecting animals in need.

Durban, South Africa (25 August 2024) – The Amanzimtoti SPCA suffered a major setback when its essential animal welfare vehicle was hijacked last month.

Although the vehicle was later recovered, it was severely stripped and damaged and is currently at the Cato Manor police station. This is the second time the car has been stolen in the past year, causing significant disruption to the SPCA’s operations and a knock to finances due to repair costs.

Despite these challenges, the community has rallied around the organisation, offering much-needed support and giving them a glimmer of hope amid their trials.

The SPCA will now begin working with its insurance to assess the damage and move forward. However, due to a previous theft, it is without any vehicles.

“Amid these challenging times, the dedicated SPCA staff have not only been dealing with the aftermath of the hijacking but are also facing personal struggles. Despite these hardships, they’ve continued to give their all to the animals we care for, and your overwhelming support has been the light that keeps us going.

“We are deeply moved by the overwhelming support we’ve received from our community. Because of you, we’re beginning to see a glimmer of hope in what has been an incredibly trying time for our little SPCA,” shared the SPCA shared in a post.

The SPCA appeals to the greater public to help them in their plight as they currently aren’t able to effectively respond to animal emergencies and cruelty complaints.

The funds they have managed to raise so far are being carefully set aside to purchase a new vehicle, something that will be crucial in fully restoring their operations.

“Our journey is far from over. As we navigate this difficult period, we continue to rely on the generosity of our community. Every act of kindness brings us closer to rebuilding and ensuring that we can keep protecting the animals who need us. Together, we will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger.”

Your support, in any form, would make a huge difference to the SPCA team’s efforts.
