A TOTAL of 155 militiamen have received rice subsidy under the “Adopt-a-Cafgu” program initiated by the Municipal Government of Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur, the military said Saturday, May 24, 2025.
The distribution of rice was held on Wednesday, May 21, and was led by Dumingag Mayor Gerry Paglinawan, together with Vice Mayor Edgardo Jamero, and Ethel Trobanos, the Municipal Local Government Operations officer (MLGOO).
Master Sergeant Giovanni Presno, first sergeant of 53IB’s Charlie Company, and other enlisted personnel joined in the distribution of rice representing the battalion.
Lieutenant Colonel Rolando Vargas Jr., 53IB commander, emphasized the importance of supporting the militiamen, recognizing them as the unsung heroes who serve at the frontlines of local security and stability.
The rice subsidy initiative is a cornerstone of the Dumingag’s “Adopt-a-Cafgu” project, a strategic program designed to uplift force multipliers’ morale and operational readiness through community-based support and recognition.
“The humanitarian assistance highlights the commitment of the Municipal Government to the welfare of local defense volunteers and maintaining peace, especially in Geographically Isolated Disadvantaged Areas,” the 53IB said in a statement.
The Adopt-a-Cafgu project fosters a stronger, more resilient force capable of protecting communities from insurgent influence and contributing to long-term peace and development. (SunStar Zamboanga)
