Golf tournament fundraiser to support Maricopa County animals in need

CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — The weather is finally cooling off in the Valley, and that means it’s golfing season. This weekend, you can hit the green while helping local shelter animals.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control and Eastside Elves are hosting their “Par-tee For Pups” golf tournament on Saturday at Lone Tree Golf Club in Chandler.

“Our primary role in life is to provide enrichment items, collars, leashes for the Maricopa County shelters,” Eastside Elves founder Julie Laux said. “Unfortunately, the majority of our support is for the east shelter, but we do, on occasion, provide for the west shelter.”

Laux said this is the sixth year of the golf tournament fundraiser. There will be items up for a raffle at the event, as well as a silent auction.

She said more teams are still needed to sign up as of Wednesday morning.

Kim Powell with MCACC said the help is badly needed, as its shelters remain beyond capacity.

“We are far beyond capacity right now,” Powell said. “Today is the first day of a waived fee adoption event. Dogs 6 months and older will have waived fees, but we’re trying to get creative to get these dogs into homes, and part of that creativity is going to off-site adoption events like this ‘Par-tee For Pups.’”

Powell said there will be adoptable dogs at the golf tournament, and you can sign up to become a volunteer or even a foster.
