A PlayStation 5 gamer received a physical copy of Concord for free from their local Walmart store, days after the game’s online servers were shut down. Other Concord players are chiming in with their experiences of purchasing or returning the game for a refund at retail as well.

After its July 2024 beta, Concord launched on August 23 as a brand-new 5v5 hero shooter from Washington-based developer Firewalk Studios. Unfortunately, the lackluster launch and very low player count did not bode well for the immediate future of Concord. Only a week and a half after launch, Firewalk Studios announced that Concord would shut down on September 6, and digital sales of Concord ceased immediately. Refunds for digital and physical copies were being issued to all players soon after the shutdown announcement was made, and only three days were left for those who wanted to enjoy the game and earn a Platinum trophy before servers went offline. Some fans also kept their copy of Concord or bought one to preserve its legacy.

Reddit user _Canary_2002 recently received a PS5 copy of Concord for free from Walmart after a strange series of events, beginning with the announcement of Concord’s shutdown on September 3. One day after making their online purchase of Concord from Walmart, the user received a notice that their order was delayed in shipping by two days. Sometime after this delay, Walmart canceled _Canary_2002’s order and sent the user a refund, but the Concord PS5 copy was still shipped to their home. The Reddit user posted their story on the Concord subreddit, asking other users if they’ve experienced a similar situation with purchasing a copy of the game from Walmart or other retailers.

The community also pointed out the high pricing for scalped physical copies of Concord on eBay, as it’s only a matter of time before availability for retail copies dries up completely.

It’s worth noting that Concord is still unplayable with a physical copy, since the servers are offline and the game does not have an offline single player component. PlayStation and Firewalk Studios are exploring options for Concord, which means that the game could return in the future. In addition, Concord will be adapted into an episode of Amazon’s Secret Level series, so fans still have some content to look forward to.
