Man facing multiple animal cruelty charges after starved animals found in home

A man has been charged with animal cruelty after multiple emaciated small dogs were found in his home, according to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday, deputies said they executed a search warrant in the 400 block of Hobson Drive. When they arrived, they found 11 Chihuahua-type dogs at the home.

One dog needed immediate emergency medical treatment, and the others were taken to the Davie County Animal Hospital.

Officers said they have issued warrants for arrest for 30-year-old Nathan Lee Tanner of Mocksville. The warrants are for one felony count of cruelty to animals and 10 misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals. He was charged late Saturday afternoon.

Deputies said he received no bond on the release order due to other charges in other counties.

Deputies said donations are needed to help get the dogs back to their healthy weights. Monetary donations may also be sent to the animal shelter to help with vet bills.
