Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) has once again been recognised as the top mobile esports game, winning the Esports Mobile Game of the Year award presented by Honor at the Esports Awards 2024. The event took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where MLBB emerged victorious for the second year running.
A repeat victory for MLBB
MLBB’s victory at the Esports Awards 2024 marks the second consecutive year the game has received this prestigious accolade. It joins the ranks of previous winners, such as PUBG: Battlegrounds and Free Fire, which have also been acknowledged for contributing to the esports community.
Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at Moonton Games, was present to accept the award. In his speech, he expressed deep appreciation for the MLBB community, including players, esports teams, organisers, and partners. “We continue to build an open ecosystem that is diverse, inclusive, and competitive to bring the best experience for our players and fans around the world,” he said, reflecting the company’s commitment to fostering a positive and engaging environment for its audience.
The award follows an impressive year for MLBB Esports, which saw the game achieve several significant milestones. One of the highlights was the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2024, which became the most-watched event at the inaugural Esports World Cup held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, attracting a peak of 2,382,990 concurrent viewers. This achievement underscored MLBB’s popularity and solidified it as a leading title in mobile esports.
Additionally, MLBB events dominated the mobile esports scene throughout 2023, with eight of the most popular mobile tournaments belonging to the game. The M5 World Championship, held in December 2023, drew an impressive 5.06 million peak concurrent viewers, further cementing MLBB’s status as the most-watched mobile esports game of the year. MLBB accumulated a staggering 530.16 million hours of watch time in 2023, making it the leading mobile gaming esports category.
Esports Awards 2024: celebrating the best in gaming
The Esports Awards 2024 celebrated excellence across various categories, with winners determined by a combination of votes from a panel of judges and esports fans. This year’s categories included awards for the best esports games, publishers, teams, players, and streamers.
Other notable winners at the 2024 Esports Awards included Riot Games’ Valorant, which took home the Esports Game of the Year award, and Riot Games, which was named Esports Publisher of the Year. Meanwhile, rivers_GG was recognised as the Streamer of the Year, although the decision sparked controversy.
