Cat in Hat Singing the ‘Sweet Caroline’ Chorus Is All You Need to See Today
A cat has left social media users laughing after joining her owner in a spirited rendition of “Sweet Caroline.”
Cleo, a black and orange tabby, showcased her musical talents by perfectly timing her meows to the melody of Neil Diamond’s classic hit while sporting a little brown hat.
“Sweet Caroline,” the owner (@lifewithcleoandjack) sang as the cat cleverly filled in the “dum-dum-dum” part with meows, perfectly in tune. The video has garnered 208,600 likes and 1.3 million views on TikTok.
Her owner clapped her paws to the tune, continuing with the line “Good times never seemed so good.” The duet was met with enthusiastic applause from viewers, who couldn’t get enough of Cleo’s pitch-perfect contribution.
As Cleo stole the spotlight, her orange tabby sibling, Jack, remained indifferent, lounging in his bed and casting a disinterested gaze at the whole spectacle.
“An American classic for our American friends on the 4th,” the owner captioned the video.
Writer Kenneth Partridge explored the history of the song in his article on the Mental Floss website.
Originally written by Diamond in 1969, “Sweet Caroline” has become an American anthem, beloved by many. Diamond wrote the song in just an hour, and it was inspired by Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy. It has since become a staple at sporting events, weddings and parties.
Perhaps most famously, the song found a home at Fenway Park, where it has become the unofficial anthem of the Boston Red Sox. Introduced to the ballpark in 1997, “Sweet Caroline” began as a tribute to someone in the stands and quickly turned into a tradition.
Today, it is played during the eighth inning of every home game, a moment that unites fans in a chorus of “So good! So good! So good!” as they sing along with the team.
TikTok users were amused by Cleo’s impeccable timing and performance. “Why was she on key tho,” one viewer marveled. Another joked, “She hit that meow meow meow perfectly.”
One TikToker hilariously confessed, “TELL ME WHY, I said meow meow meow instead of ba ba ba before I heard the cat? Am I all right?”
Others joined in, with one commenting, “The audience getting comfy.” Another declared, “Best singer I’ve heard… ever.”
Not to be left out, Jack’s nonchalant reaction also drew laughs, with one viewer quipping, “Ginger cat is like, thank god that’s not me.”
